Vocational College Hillegersberg,

Bicycle sheds as a quiet center of the building

Challenge. Create. Care.

At the beginning of 2018 the College for vocational education in Hilligersberg moved to a new location. The aim was to realise a building that would be a safe, sustainable and clean environment with low maintenance requirements for the upcoming 50 years for its students, teachers and visitors. Dura Vermeer constructed the new building.

The bicycles can be parked in the basement of the new college in Rotterdam. Many of the class rooms are situated right above the bicycle parking. In order to meet the target of a safe and sustainable environment that requires little maintenance, the architect and constructor chose to finish this basement with Heraklith wood wool in combination with PIR insulation (Herafoam combi boards)

Our Heraklith wood wool combi boards offer outstanding thermal insulation and meet the required fire classification Euro class B. The open structure of wood wool well absorbs sounds of arriving students and teachers, securing the above class rooms as a quiet learning environment.

The wood wool for Heraklith wood wool boards is made out of 100% PEFC certified wood. PEFC is the world's largest sustainable forest management organisation with 325 million hectares of forest area. Read more on our sustainability program.
