Design and sustainability go hand in hand in the realisation of Vertical

Challenge. Create. Care.

Heijmans is currently building the Vertical project in the Amsterdam Sloterdijk area. Vertical consists of three residential complexes, designed by five Dutch architectural firms. The project is characterised by design and sustainability.

The Municipality of Amsterdam is currently transforming the area around Sloterdijk station into a mixed residential and working area. Vertical will be a new eye-catcher where city and greenery blend harmoniously into one another. Vertical is Dutch Design par excellence. The design is the product of five Dutch architects. Design and sustainability are of the essence at Vertical. For example, the building uses solar energy and stores heat and cold in the ground. Rainwater and hot water are also optimally used and reused. The green facades and roof gardens shelter the building from excessive solar warming. Future residents will be living in one of the Netherlands’ most sustainable residential buildings. The Heraklith Herafoam wood wool cement panels contribute to increased thermal comfort.

Create.

To provide the ceilings of the indoor car park with excellent thermal insulation and a sustainable finish, the contractor chose Heraklith wood wool cement panels. Raab Karcher supplied Heijmans with these Herafoam combi-panels. These wood wool cement panels score well when it comes to sustainability.

As the wood wool panels would be mounted at great height, we made a specific recommendation for the fastening. This way, the contractor could be sure that the panels would also withstand the higher wind loads at these heights.

Care.

Heraklith wood wool is made from 100% PEFC certified wood that comes from European forests located close to the factory. The Herafoam combi-panel offers excellent thermal performance up to an RD of 7.10 m2·k/W. The finishing touches are also considered in this project. The wood wool is sprayed in a silk grey colour (RAL 7044) and the DDS Plus concrete screw is used for attachment. This screw has an extra small screw head with fibre structure, which makes the screws almost disappear into the panels. Thus, design and sustainability go hand in hand.
